This weekend our pastor talked about Peter and the healing of the crippled beggar in the third chapter of Acts. A beggar at the temple asked Peter and John for money and Peter’s reply was, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!” (Acts 3:6, NLT)

To the amazement of the beggar, and everyone around them, it worked. A crowd formed, and Peter took the opportunity to speak. “People of Israel, what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness?” (Acts 3:12, NLT)

Not long before this, when Jesus was still alive, Peter denied even knowing Jesus. Multiple times, in fact. Jesus was about to suffer the fate that he had been predicting, and Peter was scared. But shortly after his death, people were being healed because Peter’s words brought God’s power to the world around him.

The question begs to be asked…What happened? How did this scared man become bold, and gifted to heal others? What happened is that after Peter witnessed Jesus’s death, he saw him alive and well. So did many others. Many of us have heard the story, but Peter was transformed by it.

I did some reflecting on this after church, and I thought about what my own transformation looks like as a follower of Christ. Like anyone else, I have my ups and downs. Transformation like Peter experienced is something that I long for in my life; maybe you long for it too. Imagine if others saw that kind of transformation in us and asked, “Wow, what happened?”

Despite Peter’s prior ups and downs, he eventually found clarity and confidence in his faith. He knew he was not using his own strength, but rather the strength of God coming through him. God’s power even became an expectation. I love how he asked, “what is so surprising about this?”

Peter’s story is one of the most inspiring stories for me during Easter. I need reminders that Christ’s resurrection happened so that we could be transformed like Peter. May we all understand and experience transformation in new ways this Easter.

To your well-being,

Brian
